Operations means whatever keeps a business running, which is different in every industry. The title tells you the department and nothing else.

You find out why people buy what they buy, using survey and purchase data rather than opinion, and tell the business what to do about it.

The title tells you almost nothing about the work. At one company it is real marketing. At the next it is scheduling and paperwork for other people's marketing.

Patient facing trial operations, not laboratory science. You run the study day to day, and the rules are not negotiable.

You work on how an organization is structured, staffed and paid. It is people work approached as a business problem.

Coordinator describes a level, not a function. Whether this is project management or administration depends entirely on the employer.

In house you are filling roles at one company. At an agency you are selling placements on commission. Same title, two different jobs.

Not a job so much as a way of starting one. You do two to four different roles inside one company over two or three years, then place into one.

Planning and forecasting at some employers, purchasing and expediting at others. Both are real, and the posting rarely says which.

A company pays your firm to answer a question it cannot answer on its own. You do the work behind that answer.

Consulting style problem solving done inside one company, with the implementation attached. You answer the question and then you have to make it happen.

You are the person who knows one business system end to end. When it breaks or behaves strangely, you work out why.

You decide what gets built and why, then persuade people who do not report to you to build it. It is rarely anyone's first job.
